You Should Write a Book

Has anyone ever told you that? Have you ever said it to yourself?

Just about everyone has thought about it at least once. Most dismiss the idea for any number of reasons.

  • No one would be interested in what I have to say.
  • I don't really know enough to write a whole book.
  • I wouldn't know where to even start.

You Have Something to Share

You may not feel like you do, but everyone does. It may take a little soul searching to find out what it is, but we all have some special knowledge, expereince, or skill. Most of us are too shy or humble to think that anyone else could possibly be interested in what we have to write about. Not everyone will be interested, but some will. The key is to find a niche. One thing about the Internet is that it makes the world very small. You can get into many markets all over the world. You could find someone on the Net to translate your book into any number of languages and break into markets that you never could before.

You Don't Have to Write a Whole Book

You could write a 'Tips Booklet'. A tips booklet is easy to write and easy to read too. You can write a tips booklet on just about anything you are interested in. It can have as many or as few tips as you want.

Where to Start

Start doing.

Easier said then done, right? One of the biggest obstacles to overcome for most people is just getting started. For example, I am a computer programmer. Sometimes a project is so big that I spend way too much time trying to plan it out. Yes, it is good to plan. Some planning is always a good idea, but you can get bogged down with it. This project I am working on now is so large and complex. Everytime I come up with an idea, I have to weigh it against so many things to see if it will integrate well. I've found that if I finally just dive right in and start writing the code, it gets easier. I can start to see things take shape. I get a sense of accomplishment and I get a better idea of where to go next.
